I have posted the video Jeremy made of our 2008 trip from London, England to Cape Town, South Africa. Tom, Jeremy, and myself rode 25,000 km through 26 countries in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Ted joined us for the Europe leg of the trip. The whole trip took us three and a half months.
I’m glad I went on such an adventure when I had the chance. Not only is it hard to get three months off in a row, but we also managed to hit a window of opportunity of relative peace in the world. The window of peace that we had has now closed. The trip would not be possible today because of the devastating civil war in Syria.
My heart goes out to the people of Syria. We were treated as respected guests and showered with kindness and generosity. Syria is home to a wealth of historical and cultural monuments and some of the friendliest people anywhere. I hope the country emerges from the darkness soon and that I will be able to one day return.
Am planning to ride from kigali to Cape Town in march next year. Don’t suppose you could share your itinerary. Am feeling Mozambique but you went the other way which intrigues me. I suspect you also came to kigali after Kenya. I’d like to double back and visit there then head down via Tanzania.
Thanks for posting this one. Riding a motorcycle and roaming in different places is just awesome. Good thing someone shares the same interested as mine.
